Federal Finance Minister Chaired Meeting on Spectrum Issues

Islamabad (Newsman): The Advisory Committee on Release of IMT Spectrum for Enhancement of Next Generation Mobile Broadband Services in Pakistan met at the Finance Division under Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue.

Senior officials from relevant ministries and departments attended the meeting, along with Minister of Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja (virtual), Chairman of the PTA, Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology, and Secretary of the Ministry of Law.

PTA hired the US-based consulting firm NERA in November 2024 in compliance with PPRA Rules/EPADS to study and assess the spectrum of Pakistani market, consult with stakeholders, and prepare policy recommendations regarding sector reforms and a roadmap for a successful spectrum auction by April of the following year.

The meeting reviewed the progress of this work and discussed several other topics.

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, the finance minister, emphasized the significance of the digital economy and digital integration as a vital element of the nation’s economic transition.

According to him, the government is committed to improving digital infrastructure and connectivity to guarantee widespread adoption of new digital technologies and creative applications for cross-sector socio-economic development, economic activity transformation, and sustainable development goals.
