Federal Minister for Finance Hosts Ambassador Munir Akram

Islamabad: Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, visited the Finance Division today and met with Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue.

The Finance and Revenue Minister’s follow-up and progress on meetings, consultations, and discussions with stakeholders, including heads of major financial institutions, commercial and investment banks, bilateral partners, think tanks, and government officials, were discussed during the meeting.

Ambassador Munir Akram, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, called on the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, at the Finance Division.

Ambassador Munir Akram outlined Pakistan’s efforts to prioritize climate justice, scale up trade and climate finance reforms to aid developing nations, operationalize the Loss & Damage Fund early, implement the agreement to redirect 50% of the 2021 Special Drawing Rights (SDR) allocation to development and implement the Secretary-General’s SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Stimulus proposal through an intergovernmental process at the UN.

Additionally, Ambassador Munir Akram discussed Pakistan’s efforts to promote a clear, time-bound plan for the developed countries to fulfill their commitment to provide 0.7% of GNI ODA (Gross National Income, Official Development Assistance), the creation of a UN mechanism to encourage private and public investment in sustainable infrastructure in developing countries, and equitable, prompt debt relief and restructuring for countries experiencing financial difficulties.
