FIA butchers juniors , protects seniors involved in Greece boat tragedy

ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) spokesman on Wednesday said director general , Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir, has made it clear that there is no space for corrupt employees in the organisation . He was addressing to the FIA employees here.

A few days ago FIA had dismissed 38 personnel from service following their appearance before the Director General yesterday.

These employees working in various zones including Karachi, Multan, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and others, were summoned based on allegations of involvement in Greece boat tragedy that killed many Pakistanis some one month ago.

All these personnel appeared before the FIA Director General on December 30, 2024. They were dismissed immediately following allegations of involvement in human trafficking

However, reports suggest that senior officials allegedly involved in the matter have been ignored in the proceedings.

According to sources, the dismissed personnel primarily held the ranks of sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector, and constable. On the other hand, no action has been taken against the senior officers allegedly involved.

This has raised questions about whether this action is an attempt to scapegoat lower-ranking staff. On December 27, 2024, the FIA‘s Director General summoned these 38 personnel for a personal hearing. The notification explicitly stated that failure to appear would result in a unilateral decision. The following day, all were dismissed without further explanation.

This harsh action against lower-ranking personnel has exposed inconsistencies within the FIA’s internal processes. Experts believe that if the allegations were serious, senior officers should also have been brought under investigation. However, no such steps appear to have been taken so far. Legal experts and civil society representatives have called the move unfair.

They argue that institutions like the FIA should ensure impartial investigations against all individuals, regardless of rank. The public has reacted strongly to the incident on social media, with many asserting that accountability within the FIA should not be limited to lower-ranking staff, and senior officials should also be held accountable. This incident reflects the lack of transparency within Pakistan’s government institutions. It remains to be seen whether the government and FIA will review their actions following this criticism or if the matter will fade away like other controversies.
