LAHORE ; The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA ) former chairman Lt Gen (R), Muzammil Hussain, shrugged off a
Nationality Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore notice for appearing before it in an alleged $ 753 million corruption case in Turbela phase IV extension case on Monday.
The NAB Lahore had summoned WAPDA former chairman on June 6 for recording of his statement in the case . Mr Muzammil Hussain has been charged of misuse of power and award of contract for the project in question to some selected party that caused a loss of $ 753 million to the national exchequer .
Instead appearing before the NAB and give his version in an alleged massive corruption case, Lt Gen (R) Muzammil Hussain , preferred to shrug off NAB’s authority. Former WAPDA chairman’s behaviour not to appear before the watch dog is a challenge to the bureau. Since the corruption case in hand is a serious matter, the NAB would have to take some practical measures to make sure that Mr Muzammil surrenders to the rule of law and record his statement in the case related to award of contract to a selected party for phase ,IV extension of Turbela dam on next hearing.
Mr Muzammil Hussain was appointed as WAPDA chairman in 2016 by then prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, for a 5-year term. On completion of the 5- year term, Mr Muzammil was given extension of another 5 – year term in 2021 by ousted prime minister , Imran Khan.
However , Mr Muzammil resigned from office in March last, citing person reasons to resign as WAPDA chairman.
