Ghalib’s letters are an unparalleled legacy of prose, Says Prof. Khurshid Rizvi at urdu literary event in Jeddah

Jeddah :Renowned scholar, educationist, and researcher Professor Khurshid Rizvi has hailed Mirza Ghalib’s prose—especially his letters—as a priceless treasure of Urdu literature. He stated that Ghalib’s letters are not merely personal writings but a vibrant reflection of the political, social, and cultural life of his time.

Addressing a dignified literary gathering organized by the International Urdu Center, Jeddah, Prof. Rizvi remarked that Ghalib elevated letter writing from a formal exchange to a living literary form. His language is simple, accessible, and emotionally resonant.

“Ghalib did not just write letters—he conversed through them,” said Prof. Rizvi.The event also featured a mushaira (poetry session) chaired by Prof. Rizvi, where celebrated poets Athar Abbasi, Faisal Tufail, Afsar Barabankvi, Nasir Burney, Naushad Usman, Tashfeen Syed, and Dr. Kareem Bibani recited their poetry and received great appreciation from the audience.

The guest of honor, former federal minister Chaudhry Shehbaz, commended the efforts of the International Urdu Center in promoting the Urdu language and literature abroad.

“Urdu is not just our language—it is a vibrant part of our cultural heritage, and passing it on to future generations is essential,” he said.

The event proved to be a memorable occasion for lovers of Urdu literature, with attendees expressing deep appreciation for the organizers and emphasizing the importance of holding such events regularly.
