Govt appoints Syed Asim Munir as CDF for five years

President consents summary for appointment of field martial Syed Asim Munir , on PM Shahbaz Sharif 's recommendation . PAF chief also granted 2-year extension in office

Islamabad : Within hours after prime minister ‘s clearance , president , Asif Ali Zardari , gave his consent to a summary sent to him for approval by the Prime Minister Office for appointment of Field Martial , Syed Asif Munir , as Pakistan ‘s first chief of defence forces (CDF) .

According to an official handout , the appointment of Syed Asim Munir , as CDF will be for 5 – year term which will begin from March 19, 2026 on completion of his current appointment as Chief of Army Staff.

After formal appointment of Field Martial , Syed Asim Munir , as CDF , the storm of rumours regarding delay in issuance of the notification will come to a grinding halt

Since CDF has been created a new position by the government to govern the armed forces of Pakistan , it had become a debate of every Tom and Jerry in Pakistan . It pushed the Pakistani society into a grave controversy. However , Thursday’s development of approval of the summary for appointment of Field Martial , Syed Asim Munir , put all rumours mills to a halt.

On the same occasion , the government has also approved extension in service for two years to Sandu as Pakistan Air Force (PAF) .

Field Martial , Syed Asim Munir , had informal chat with the journalists at Awan e Saddar on Thursday.

He said everything was heading to a good direction and its a stage from where Pakistan is going to take a big plung ahead.

After formal approval by the competent authority , the Defence ministry issued a notification for appointment of General Asim Munir as CDF on Thursday evening .
