Govt decides to counter PDM in streets

ISLAMABAD. Prime minister, Imran Khan, has ordered its party… Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf… (PTI) to get ready to confront the opposition parties on the ground. The prime minister’s order to the party to launch public campaign has come in the wake of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) protest launched against the government over the price-hike issue.
Imran Khan also directed to its economic team to chalkout a workable strategy for providing subsidy to the pro poor on petroleum products who are badly affected by rising prices of oil in the domestic market.
The subsidy on petroleum products will cover small consumers of oil like motorbikers and rickshaw owners. The prime minister gave instructions to its party leaders and economic team while presiding over a meeting of Ehsas Programme here in Wednesday.
The prime minister said the government was fully aware of the impact of growing price-hike in the country and it was expanding subsidy for pro poor and low income group of the society.
The prime minister also ordered to form committees at district level to monitor the prices at the local level.
Later, Information minister, Fawad Hussain Chaudhary, told the mediaperson that the prime minister has ordered relief to the pro poor and low income group through targetted subsidy. He maintained that the prime minister was given a detailed briefing on Ehsas Programme and its outreach to the deserving individuals for relief. The Information minister said Khyber Pukhtunkhaw (KPK) and Punjab have decided to join Ehsas Programme for immediate relief through targetted subsidy. He said Sindh and Balochistan should also become a part to Ehsas Programme to provide instance relief to their population. Fawad Chaudhary added atta price was much higher in Sindh than other provinces due to non release of wheat quota to the flour mills.
