Islamabad : May 13, 2024 : The government on Monday issued an official handout to confirm a formal kickstart of discussion with International Monetary Fund (IMF) visiting team for another long term loan programme.
IMF team is in Islamabad for the last a few days to review Pakistan’s reforms plan and clear budget 2024-25. IMF team is going through Knitty and gritty of government ‘s economic recovery plan . It has shared with the government authorities a broader outline to help Pakistan come out of the on-going fiscal crisis. Pakistan is looking for a long term loan programme with an objective to make necessary reforms in those sectors which are under performing currently.
The official handout said IMF mission led by Mr. Nathan Porter, IMF Mission Chief called on the Finance Minister on 13th May, 2024 at the Finance Ministry to kickstart the discussions on further engagement with the Fund. The meeting was attended by Governor-State Bank of Pakistan, Chairman-Federal Board of Revenue, and senior officers of the Finance Ministry.
The Finance Minister welcomed the IMF team and thanked them for the successful completion of the Standby Arrangement (SBA). The Finance Minister apprised the IMF team of the improvement in the macro-economic indicators over the course of the SBA and underscored the government’s commitment to continue with and expand upon the reform agenda
