Govt Forms Task Force to Tackle Fake News and Malicious Propaganda

ISLAMABAD, December 2, 2024 – In response to recent incidents of terrorism, vandalism, and a widespread disinformation campaign, the government has set up a 10-member joint task force (JTF) to identify and take action against those responsible for spreading malicious propaganda targeting the state.

The tasked force constituted after the endorsement of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will concentrate on identifying individuals, groups, and organizations responsible for spreading fake and misleading news.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, multiple media platforms—both domestic and international—have been used to circulate false and inflammatory reports, accusing the state apparatus of serious human rights violations.

The statement further highlighted that the aim of this campaign is to create unrest in the country, stir ethnic and provincial tensions, and serve specific political interests.

The task force has been tasked with completing its investigation and submitting findings within 10 days to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice swiftly.
