Islamabad : At least 9 people died and 12 other injured , two of them serious, when a big explosion occured inside a house where wedding festivities were in progress. Ill-fated house is situated in G-7/2 sector in federal capital in Islamabad .
Ill-fated family had been hit with a heartbreaking tragedy as both groom and bride also died along with 7 other family members and guests who were in the house when the big explosion occured in wee hours on Sunday.
The injured were rushed to nearby PIMS hospital . According to PIMS spokesperson , Dr Aneeza , six dead bodies and 11 injured were brought to PIMS hospital and 9 injured were released after treatment . However , two seriously injured with still being treated at the hospital.
Hanif Masih , the head of the ill-fated family, said while talking to the media that the explosion occured at 7 am on Sunday . He confirmed that his son (groom) and bride , his elder brother and his spouse were among the dead. He wailed in his media talk that the explosion occured due to gas leakage . “One deadly blast took away my everything ‘, distrusted in pain Hanif Masih added .
Additional Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Shahzada Yousaf , visited the scene and assured to the affected families that they will be provided every possible facility for treatment of the injured individuals.
Syed Nasir Rizvi , Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad also visited the scene of the incident. He also spoke to the media . He said the incident occured due to gas leakage from the heater . He said the police has collected evidences for investigations into the incident. He noted that the initial reports suggested that the incident occured due to gas leakage from the heater. Blast was so huge that the entire house where explosion occured turned into rubbles. According to IGP Islamabad , Syed Nasir Rizvi, the explosion also damaged three other adjacent houses.
Prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , expressed grief over loss of lives in gas – heater related explosion in Sector G-7/2 in Islamabad . He directed to the concerned authorities to provide the information best medical care to the injured . He ordered a comprehensive investigations into the incident.
