IHC indicts Rana Shamim in contempt case

Indictment of journalists delayed

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday indicted Rana Shamim, former chief justice Gilgit Baltistan (GB) , in affidavit contempt case.
IHC chief justice, Athar Minallah , heared the case.
Rana Shamim’s affidavit case is in the headlines in Pakistan since publishing its related story by a local media group known for its closeness with Pakistan Muslim League PML (N) former chief, Nawaz Sharif some two months ago.The court deplored that such a big media house of Pakistan published a story based on the affidavit of former chief justice GB , Rana Shamim, without taking legal opinion on its possible impact on Pakistan’s higher judiciary.
The Islamabad high court , however, set a new standard of justice by delaying indictment of the journalist who authored the story on the basis of the affidavit in question. The court also did not indict owner and publisher of the media group which published the affidavit related story.
Attorney General of Pakistan , Khalid Javed , had pleaded before the court to delay indictment of the journalists in the case. Later, speaking on the indictment of Rana Shamim said the former Chief Justice GB will be given full opportunity to defend himself in the case. He also assured to the indicted retired judge that he will get justice in the case.
The Attorney General of Pakistan said the media felt its fault for the first time ever before the court in Rana Shamim case .
