Islamabad : April 1,2024: Tuesday proved a lucky day for Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf when its founding chairman , Imran Khan , and his spouse , Bushra Bibi, got major relief as Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended their sentence in ToshaKhana case. IHC chief justice , Amir Farooq , suspended sentence of the duo after hearing the plea submitted for the same by PTI leaders. PTI founding chairman and his spouse had challenged their sentence in ToshaKhana case before the IHC. Imran Khan and his spouse had taken the plea in their appeal in the case that ToshaKhana case was politically motivated and the judgement of the accountability court in this case was ultra virus to the constitution and law of the land. The Accountability Court of Judge Muhammad Bashir had awarded 14-year term to ex-prime minister and his spouse in January this year for violating the rules of ToshaKhana and taking away dozens of precious gifts given by various states to Imran Khan during his visits there as prime minister. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had submitted the reference in the accountability court of judge Muhammad Bashir claiming that ex prime minister Imran Khan and his spouse withheld around 58 gifts that they got during their foreign visits without depositing them in ToshaKhana , a section of the Cabinet Division.
As per the law , any top office holder including the president and prime minister and other government functionaries can get back the gifts that they got from foreign dignitaries after paying their assessed price in ToshaKhana . Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi were accused of withholding half of gifts they got from different heads of the states during their visits without their assessment.
On the same ground , the judge of the accountability court had awarded 14-year term each to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi , besides imposing penalty of Rs 787 million them each. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are completing their term in ToshaKhana case in Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
IHC chief justice observed while suspending sentence of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi that the case will be fixed for hearing after Eidul Fitr.
Meanwhile , PTI leader ,Fawad Chaudhary, also got major relief from the court on Tuesday when IHC ordered his release in Jehlum land case. Fawad Chaudhary is also languishing in Adiala jail in multiple cases.
