Imran Khan’s unexpected bouncer puts PDM in panic

Govt team rushed to presidency for role in avoiding dissolution of KPK,Punjab assemblies

ISLAMABAD/ LAHORE: Dec 14 2022:. With Imran Khan’s new bouncer, Shahbaz- led coalition government in the centre seems fallen flat on the pitch. Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan’s surprising announcement that his party MNAs are now going to the national assembly to declare their resignations on the floor of the House again has left Shahbaz- led coalition government in total shock and wilderness .

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government probably was not expecting such a sharp move from PTI leadership and for the same it seems helpless to tackle this new, but unexpected political move of Imran Khan.

The PDM ‘s focus was only on two provincial assemblies -Punjab and KPK. Imran Khan’s announcement that his party MNAs are going to announce their resignations on the floor of the House and this will bring 70 % population of the country to elections mode has come out of the blue for PDM.

Imran Khan had announced in his address to the nation live on BOL TV telecasted on Wednesday that his party MNAs will resign on the floor of the House .

In case, PTI MNAs use this option of resigning on the floor of the House, Shahbaz- led coalition government will have no other option, but to accept PTI MNAs resignation there and then. The national assembly speaker will have no other option but to accept the resignations of PTI MNAs. After accepting PTI MNAs’ resignations , the fragile government of Shahbaz- Sharif will not be in a position for by-elections in 160 plus constituencies of the national assembly.
And then Pakistan will ultimately go to the mid term elections.

The meeting of two member committee comprising Law minister , Azam Nazir Tarar and EAD minister , Ayaz Sadiq, with president , Dr Arif Alvi, and requesting him to persuade Imran Khan not to dissolve KPK and Punjab assemblies is self explanatory . It also highlights the degree of panic in the PDM government circles .

The government team pleaded in the meeting with Dr Arif Alvi that the latter should use his good office to stop Imran Khan from taking extreme step of dissolving two provincial assemblies.

President Dr Arif Alvi, who is the only channel available to the government to have backdoor negotiations with Imran Khan, rushed to Lahore to brief Imran khan on his talks with the government team.

Imran Khan has announced to give a final deadline for dissolution of KPK and Punjab assemblies and he may not be interested in listening from president Arif Alvi anything other than a committment from Shahbaz- led government to declare a timeframe for fresh elections in the country.
