ISLAMABAD: Jaamat e Islami Ameer senator, Sirajul Haq has demand ban on independent candidates to contest elections as it in his opinion opens- up dirty business of horse -trading to pollute the political system of the country.
Senator Sirajul Haq also urged upon the political parties to have dialogue for putting an end to the establishment role in the national politics.
JI ameer made these assertions while sharing draft of his party for electoral reforms with media here on Wednesday.
Senator Sirajul Haq said JI fully supports the initiative of electronic voting to ensure free and fair elections in the country. He, however, suggested removal of bottlenecks to address concern of the opposition.
JI ameer said the appointment of the Chief Election Commission should be an authority of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and not of the prime minister and opposition leader of the national assembly as the present system of appointment is a party to the system.
Under 18th amendment, the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan is made by the prime minister and opposition laader in the national assembly with concenses.
This amendment in the constitution is self-explanatory. Actually, this clause introduced in 18th amendment was based on ill intention. The idea behind the amendment was to make the Chief Election Commission a subservient to two leaders (PM and opposition leader ) in the name of making parliament super power.
The brain behind 18th amendment tactfully did its work to make the appoinment of the Chief Election Commissioner a bargaining chip for the leader of the House and opposition leader. Since introduction of 18th amendment by PPP rule, this appointment has added a new controversy in the political system as none of the prime minister or opposition leader gives up its motive of preferring vested interests of his party or group of parties in this key appointment.
JI demanded implementation of article 62-63 in letter and spirit to get honest and God fearing representatives in parliament.
Article 62-63 had been a hot topic at different forums including Supreme Court of Pakistan which had honoured Sirajul Haq in a case sometimes back by noting that he (Sirajul Haq) may be only one person who would fulfil 62-63 requirements in true spirit.
JI chief also demanded elections in the country on proportionate representation .
JI chief us among strong critics of Pakiatan Tehreek e Insaf (PTi) government. He has been continously criticising the Imran Khan government for price hike and unemployment. Sirajul Haq again repeated his the same veraion on key ussues like economic pilucies, unemployment and price hike and demanded remedial measures to give relief to the people who he claimed were mouning under unbearable pricehike and joblessness.
