Land mafia resists operation clean up in Islamabad, fires at police , CDA party

Islamabad : Sept 18 : A joint operation of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Islamabad district administration and local police faced resistance from organised land mafia during an operation launched to retrieve land in Meharabadi (Chauntra) on Monday.

The operation was launched in line with ending land grabbing in Islamabad and develop the new sectors to address the issue of housing on long term basis in the federal capital . Meharabadi (Chauntra ) is a hub of land grabbers. The CDA Public Relations Department in its official handout issued here said CDA had acquired the land of Meharabadi (Chauntra) in 1969 and the legal owners of the land of Meharabadi (Chauntra) were awarded the benefits like payments and alternative land allotments accordingly.

The handout said “According to SUPARCO images only 30 houses were situated on this land in 1985. In 2004 when CDA handed over the land of Meharabadi to the concerned department there were 342 houses on the land”. According to the CDA Public Relations Department later organised land mafia occupied the land of Meharabadi through unlawful means. It added that this land grabber mafia is selling land of Meharabadi (Chauntra ) already acquired by CDA long time ago to unlawful buyers on stamp papers. The land grabbers mafia opened fire on the teams of CDA , district administration and the police party and injured some of the members .

As a result of indiscriminate firing a young man who was also involved in pelting on the officials who were present on the site got seriously injured.
