ISLAMABAD, November 15, 2024LThe final supermoon of 2024 will grace the skies over Pakistan early this morning, peaking at 2:28 AM.
According to renowned astronomer Dr. Javed Iqbal, a supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it appear significantly larger and brighter than usual.
Dr. Iqbal explained that during a supermoon, the distance between Earth and the Moon decreases to approximately 360,378 km, compared to the average distance of 384,400 km.

This reduced distance causes the moon to appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than at its average distance.
The spectacle will be further enhanced by a meteor shower, which is expected to peak this weekend.
According to the American Meteor Society, the supermoon will reach its zenith at 2:29 AM on Saturday, at a distance of around 225,000 miles from Earth.

During this time, meteorites will be visible in the sky in significant numbers, adding a mesmerizing touch to the event.
