LHC suspends governor’s order, restores Elahi as CM

LAHORE : Dec 23,2022: Within 24 hours , Lahore High Court (LHC) .suspended the Governor , Baligh Ur Rehman , order and restored Chaudhary Pervez Elahi as chief minister of Punjab.

Advocate Ali Zafar who was a counsel for the chief minister Punjab assured the court that his client will not dissolve the Punjab assembly if the Governor’s order of denotifying the chief minister of Punjab was suspended.

On his assurance, the court restored Chaudhary Pervez Elahi as chief minister Punjab.
The Governor Punjab had issued an order on December 22 for denotifying the chief minister on the ground that he had failed to take vote of confidence to prove his majority in the house.

Punjab Governor had issued an order to Chaudhary Pervez Elahi on December 19 to take vote of confidence on December 21;to prove his majority in the House.

Speaker Punjab assembly , Subtain Khan, instead making arrangements to ensure that the Governor’s order was complied with, gave a ruling that the Governor ‘s order of December 19 in connection with vote of confidence of the chief executive of the province was illegal. The Speaker’s ruling served as a catalyst to ignite a constitutional crisis in the country.

Taking the speaker’s arguments as a violation of his order, the Governor had issued a second order to denotify the chief minister Punjab .

The Governor had also dissolved the cabinet of Chaudhary Pervez Elahi forth with .

Chaudhary Pervez Elahi had moved the LHC against his denotification and dismissal of his cabinet . The LHC larger bench heard the case on Friday and restored Chaudhary Pervez Elahi as chief minister Punjab.
