Loaded dumper overruns vehicles at Sohan bridge , kills four persons

RAWALPINDI: July 17, 2023: A loaded dumper crushed a number of vehicles at Sohan bridge in Rawalpindi in the morning hours on Monday, killing four passengers and injuring many others, Ashgar Ali Mubarak, NEWSMMAN special correspondent reported.

According to the details a dumber which was loaded which was heading to Rawat from Katchery Chown ran over the vehicles due to over-speeding at Sohan bridge on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road in Rawalpindi. The incident occurred due to over-speeding and choking of the traffic at Sohan bridge. The dumper hit two cars and a Suzuki pickup carrying passengers killing at least four persons at the spot and injuring many others. The injured and dead bodies were shifted to District Hospital Headquarters (DHQ) hospital.

The 1122 rescue teams had reached at the accident spot to shift to the injured to the hospital for medical treatment.
Sohan bridge at GT road has been a deadly point for long. A few months ago a portion of under construction Sohan bridge had collapsed and the National High Way Authority (NHA) which is responsible of ensuring quality work at any road projects including the bridges had received serious criticism from the public. Interestingly, despite public resentment, NHA did not bother to restore construction work at damaged site of Sohan bridge. The same point of Sohan bridge resulted in fatal accident today that claimed four precious lives, besides injuring around half a dozen others at least four of them serious.
