RAWALPINDI: September 5, 2024: Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general , Lt General Ahmad Shari Chaudhary, on Thursday said Lt. General (Retd), Faiz Hameed, has violated Army Rules at the behest of some political elements and for it his court martial is under process.
Addressing a press brief here on Thursday, ISPR DG said the army has a robust internal accountability system and if any of its officer or ranker commits any violation of the Army Rules in any circumstance he is held accountable for it. He termed Lt. General (Retd) Fiaz Hameed’s case as its classical example. He said other institutions should follow the army for internal accountability.ISPR chief told a questioner that the investigations against Lt . General Faiz Hameed are continuing and he will keep on updating the media on the progress to be on his issue.
Lt. General Faiz Hammed is in the custody of the army for some time for his link to corruption matter in a local housing society. ISPR had announced after his arrest some two months ago that Lt. General, Faiz Hameed, has been arrested by the military to investigate in a case of corruption in a local housing society. Later, the army had widened the scope of investigations against Faiz Hameed and arrested three other retired senior military officers. The arrest of a former ISI chief by the military is a rare case. ISPR chief gave a vague answer to a question asked about potential arrest of Imran Khan in Faiz Hameed’s case. ISPR DG told the questioner that if some political elements (Without naming Imran Khan), used any military officer for some political purpose, the law will take its course. ISPR DG’s reply to the questioner did not rule out arrest of Imran Khan in connection with Faiz Hameed’s arrest.
Regarding recent rise in terrorist activities in Balochistan , ISPR DG said Balochistan is a second home to the army and its people are as loyal to Pakistan as the people of other provinces are. He said some external elements were indulged in terrorists activities in Balochistan and they are being sorted out by the troops. He added that the federal government is spending Rs 750 billion for development in Balochistean in the current fiscal year and for it Rs 550 billion will be contributed by the federal government. ISPR DG said the federal government is providing funds for uplift of Balochstan. He said a sizeable number of Pakistan army comes from Balochistan. He said those who are offering sacrifices from the military for peaceful has a large percentage of Baloch national. ISPR chief said the army is a national institution and it has nothing to do with the politics or with any political party.
