M6 Motorway Project Set to Connect Karachi and Sukkur

Karachi: On Thursday, Federal Minister of Communication Aleem Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah decided to construct an M6 motorway to connect Karachi and Sukkur via Hyderabad rather than Hyderabad to Sukkur.

According to an official statement released by the Sindh CM House, they decided to investigate the idea of building the motorway through a public-private partnership (PPP) or a consortium that would be created by the federal and provincial governments.

CM Murad stated that he would research the possibilities and methods to make this happen at a meeting between the two that was held at the CM House in Karachi.

The Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway project calls for building a 306-kilometer, six-lane, access-controlled motorway. Starting in Hyderabad and ending in Naro Canal, it is intended to be a high-speed toll road facility for effective and secure transit.

As previously mentioned, a PPP agreement was signed in December 2022 with a private consortium for the Motorway (M-6) project; however, the collaboration was canceled for an unspecified reason.

The federal minister explained to the CM that the M6 may be started from Karachi via Hyderabad to Sukkur instead of being initiated from Hyderabad to Sukkur to facilitate the port traffic, and CM Murad agreed to the proposal.

The possibility of the federal and provincial governments forming a cooperative to build the road in equal cooperation was the subject of another proposal. The CM stated that his staff would review the plan and report back to the ministry at this point.

The meeting also covered several other topics, such as the Lyari Expressway upgrade, the Link Road interchange’s NOC issue, the Gharo to Keti Bundar road project, the Thatta to Keenjhar road condition, the Ghotki-Kandhkot bridge project, the Thul Link Road construction, and the unfinished Jamshoro-Sehwan Road.
