Islamabad : Maroof International Hospital is a private healthcare centre in F-10 sector of Islamabad. On Tuesday , Asadullah Khan Wazir, who is a journalist by profession, took his sister, who is a patient of neuro, to Maroof Hospital for consultation. He paid the charges and got a chit for it. His time to go to the doctor was 11.30 pm. He kept on waiting with his ailing sister for doctor who , according to Asadullah Khan Wazir , did not show up till 2 pm. Weary of hours long wait with ailing sister , Asadullah Khan Wazir approached to the reception of the hospital to know when the doctor assigned was going to come and check his ailing sister . He would desperate to know the doctor ‘s availability . During his argument with the adminstration sitting at the reception , Doctor Akbar turned up and leaped to his room.
Asadullah Khan says he entered into the Doctor Akbar’s room on his turn with his sister and during initial questioning by the doctor he referred the report of another doctor so that Dr Akbar could have history of the patient. He says on referring the name of the doctor who was previous consultant of his sister , Dr Akbar , started to shout at him. This shouting was followed by a barrage of abuses by Dr Akbar in presence of his sister and when he politely reminded Dr Akbar not to use such a derogatory language for a senior doctor whose name and reports he had tried to share with him to help him understand history of the patient, Dr Akbar stood up and threatened to kill him with his weapon.
According to Asadullah Khan Wazir , Dr Akbar threatened him that he could kill him with him weapon in and outside the hospital.
Asadullah shared his ordeal and behaviour of a ” Badmash” Dr Akbar on the social media with a purpose to highlight the issue and reach out to the concerned departments to investigate the matter and take action against “Badmash”
doctor who hurled threats on him to take his life instead treating the patient professionally.
Narrating his ordeal , Asadullah Khan Wazir said ” Today, I had an absolutely horrifying experience at Maroof International Hospital with Dr. Akbar Ali Khan. My sister had a neurology consultation, and since Prof. Dr. Khaleeq-uz-Zaman is currently on leave, we were referred to Dr. Akbar. His OPD time was 11:00 AM, but he didn’t show up until 2:30 PM, leaving patients waiting for hours without any communication or apology. When our turn came, I politely handed him my sister’s previous prescription by Dr. Khaleeq so he could understand her case history. Shockingly, he looked at it with disgust, tore it into pieces, and said, “Dr. Khaleeq uses his wife for sexual purposes. Ye tu chaprasi.” I was stunned by the vulgarity and the completely unprofessional comment about such a respected senior doctor. I calmly asked him to speak respectfully, but instead of responding with professionalism, he stood up aggressively, started yelling, and launched a barrage of threats and abuse. He said, “You don’t know who I am. I am a badmash. I can make you disappear. I have a licensed weapon and I will use it.” This was not just verbal abuse. It was a direct threat of violence made inside a hospital room. My sister, who is already unwell, started shaking from fear. There was no hospital staff or security present to intervene, and we had to leave the hospital feeling humiliated, mentally disturbed, and unsafe. This man is not only unfit to be a doctor. He is a danger to patients and their families. Maroof Hospital must take strict disciplinary action against Dr. Akbar Ali Khan. If this incident is brushed under the carpet, I will be left with no choice but to take legal action. As a journalist, I believe it is not just our right but our responsibility to speak out against such abuse, no matter how powerful or protected the individual may be. Silence only empowers cruelty, and if we do not raise our voices against injustice in such spaces, then we are equally responsible for enabling it”.
This correspondent contacted Maroof International Hospital to get point of view of its administration on the accusations levelled by Asadullah Khan Wazir against it’s doctor Akbar on duty , Ms Liana , who introduced herself as patient care incharge, said ” I know the incident A patient ‘s brother tried to make video of OPD of the hospital and he misbehaved with the staff when was asked not to film inside the hospital . She , however , denied of having any knowledge of threats hurled by Dr Akbar on the guy.
Talking to NEWSMAN Asadullah Khan Wazir narrated his ordeal and accused Dr Akbar of misbehaving with and hurling life threats in presence of his ailing sister and two other female doctors.
