ISLAMABAD: Farhat Khan , a close friend of Pakistan’s first lady, Bushra Bibi , withdrew her nomination papers for contesting senate elections from Punjab against a women seat on Thursday.
Doctor Zarqa, a deserving party worker, will be Pakistan Tehreek Insaf’s (PTI) candidate on this seat now.
Farhat Khan commonly known as Farah Khan is a mysterious character. She appears in news off and on for her close friendship with Bushra Bibi (spouse of the prime minister).
PTI had picked- up Farhat Khan as its candidate for contesting senate elections for her close relationship with Bushra Bibi.
PTI decision of ignoring deserving party workers and preferring Farhat Khan over them had sparked huge criticism within the party. The news had also created mayham in main stream Pakistani media as well as in social media. The party workers had openly opposed award of ticket to a non party worker.
Seeing backlash in media and furor in PTI ranks, Farhat Khan appeared before the secrutiny committee on Thursday with a request to withdraw her nomination papers. Farhat Khan’s withdrawal has paved way for Doctor Zarqa, a known party face, to contest senate election on March 3, 2021 against a women seat from Punjab.
