As mercury rises so my thoughts with my fellow countrymen who are mostly without electricity and fans with a fraction privileged to be in air conditioned environment. My own preference is to be in an environment where the air is naturally cooled enable life to sustain the killer heatwave.
This post I dedicate to Nawabzada Tariq Khan of Tank and his beautiful 4 star hotel called Serai built in Naran that he very kindly invited me to be his guest, a kindness that I regret to have not availed today, the hotel now being running on 100% occupancy having maintained its high standards of hygiene that sadly our hospitality industry lacks especially in the tourist areas. I still intend picking my tent pitching it somewhere in the safety of the hotel sprawling lawn if the disciplinarian Nawabzada will allow me a refugee into this man made heaven on earth.
This vintage picture is their family owned fort in Tank South Waziristan, where British soldiers could be seen in uniform. I even long to visit this historic fort more to recollect the historic event of the death of an arrogant Britisher inside this very fort. The fool who refused to take advice of the then Nawab Shahnawaz Khan forefather of Nawabzada Tariq Khan, to dismount and consequently fell from the very elephant he was proudly riding as the then Governor of Punjab.
Sir Henry Marian Durand later buried in D. I. Khan happened to be the father of Mortimer Durand after whom Durand Line ( Pak – Afghan Border) is named that split the Pukhuns exactly the way the proud Germans were split into East and West Germany by the world to weaken them and forestall their domination of Europe both militarily and economically . The German reunification was only possible when the Soviet Union collapsed and disintegrated.
One can only wish such a situation does not arise here as one can’t see good days ahead when both Bangladesh and Afghanistan are far ahead of us economically despite all the treasures that the Creator blessed this geography named Pakistan that sadly remains into the wrong hands of our foolish leaders, who are hell bent to destroy it and themselves . 🇵🇰
