LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has again summoned Lt Gen (R) and former Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA ) chairman. Muzammal Hussain, in a $ 753 million bungling case and asked him to appear before the watchdog on June 20, 2022.
The NAB summon issued to Lt Gen Muzammal said “ You as WAPDA chairman committed a number of gross violations of the rules and procedure in award of multi- million dollar Turbela Hydro Power Project (Extension IV) , besides putting many other important water reserviours related projects that caused $ 753 million loss to the national kitty. You were requested to appear before the NAB investigation officer on June 20, 2022 at 11 Am to give your point of the view on the accusations leveled against you”. The former WAPDA chairman has also been asked to bring all relevant documents along with him that he thinks were relevant to the case.
Lt Gen (R)Muzammal Hussain had resigned as WAPDA chairman soon after dismissal of Imran Khan government. As WAPDA chairman , he had awarded many multi- million dollar projects to the contractors including Terbela Hydro Power Project Extension IV . Mr Muzammal Hussain has been accused of ignoring PEPRA rules in award of the contract to a selected contractor that Turbela Hydro Power Project Extension IVB that caused loss of $ 753 million to the national exchequer.
Lt Gen Muzammal Hussain being a blue eyed of former prime minister, Imran Khan, was considered very powerful WAPDA chairman. He hardly cared about following a requisite procedure in award of multi million development projects related to WAPDA. The NAB Lahore had decided to investigate a complaint filed against him by a group of senior officials of WAPDA and summoned him to explain his position against the accusations of corruption and delay in award of contracts which caused huge loss of financial resources to the country. Lt Gen. Muzammal Hussain had simply shrugged off NAB notice and decided not to be appear the watchdog. Seeing his errant behaviour NAB Lahore again summoned to Mr Muzammal Hussain in the same case and asked him to appear before its investigation
