NAB takes step towards digitalization: Online payments for victims of frauds

Islamabad s: September 24,2025 :
Addressing the difficulties faced by the victims of various financial scams in receiving their amounts, the National Accountability Bureau has decided to transfer recovered funds to victims online.

In this regard, a special ceremony was held today at the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), presided over by Chairman NAB Lt. Gen. (R) Nazir Ahmed. In the first phase, recovered funds were directly transferred online to the victims of the B4U fraud.

Deputy Chairman, Directors General, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) management, and other senior NAB officers attended the ceremony. The Chairman NAB himself initiated the online transfer of funds directly into the bank accounts of victims, which is a historic development.

In the past, NAB used to return money to a limited number of victims at a time via pay orders, a process that was very time-consuming and required victims to physically visit NAB offices to receive their money. Now, NAB has completely digitized this process so that funds can be transferred directly to the victims’ bank accounts, eliminating the traditional, time-consuming method.

NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi transferred PKR 878.709 million to the accounts of 5,008 victims of the B4U fraud in a single day, marking the largest and fastest action of its kind to date.

NAB began its investigation into the B4U fraud in February 2021 based on complaints from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and victims. The investigation has now been completed. Following the investigation, the accused admitted a liability of PKR 7.3 billion, of which an initial PKR 3.7 billion has been recovered and is being distributed among 17,250 victims. The remaining amount will be distributed to victims after it is recovered.

On this occasion, the Chairman of NAB said, “This is a milestone for NAB. Under our new policy, victims will no longer have to make rounds of NAB offices to collect their money and will not face difficulties in receiving their funds. We are making the fund recovery process more efficient, transparent, and easier through technology. Our goal is to recover the embezzled funds as quickly as possible and safely return them to their rightful owners.”

The successful experience of online fund transfers in the B4U case will be adopted by all regional NAB offices for all future fund disbursement processes.

This step marks the beginning of a new era of digital accountability and public service, brought to fruition by the Chairman’s vision and the joint efforts of the National Bank of Pakistan’s management and NAB’s finance department. In this regard, an agreement was also signed between NAB and the National Bank concerning the online transfer of funds to victims.

Expressing his views, DG NAB (Rawalpindi/Islamabad) Waqar Ahmed Chauhan said that this action is a milestone for NAB in public service, which will provide relief to people in remote areas.
