National Assembly Nominates Five Members for CJP

ISLAMABAD, November 2,2024: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has nominated five members for the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), including four parliamentarians and one woman.

This decision follows the reconstitution of the JCP under the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which introduces parliamentary representation.

The nominees from the National Assembly are Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Sheikh Aftab and Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub. From the Senate, the nominees are Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Farooq H. Naek, Leader of Opposition Shibli Faraz from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and former senator Roshan Khursheed Barocha.

The JCP’s responsibilities include appointing judges to the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Federal Shariat Court, as well as overseeing the performance of High Court judges and preparing their annual evaluations.

The nominations ensure equal representation from both the government and the opposition. The names have been forwarded to the JCP secretary for further action.
