Nationwide protests against arrest of religious cleric bring Pakistan at standstill

ISLAMABAD: On Monday at around 10 am , the police arrested, Saad Rizvi, cleric and chief of a religious party, in Lahore and in its follow up a countrywide protest put Pakistan at standstill.

The protests erupted in all small and major cities, towns and villages across Pakistan over arrest of Saad Rizvi, blocking traffic at every main road of Pakistan.

The people who left their offices at closing time ( 5 pm) on Monday remained trapped in traffic till mid night in many cities like Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Islamabad.

The road blockade resulted in trapping of ambulances and vehicles carrying oxygen cylinders to be used in hospitals for corona infected serious patients.

Punjab Health minister, Yasmin Rashid, appealed to the protesters to allow trucks carrying oxygen cylinders to reach to hospitals to help the doctors carry on supply of oxygen to serious COVID- 19 patients.

Till filing of this report at 00. 45 am on Tuesday, the protesters were sitting on the roads and there seemed no end to this serious crisis..
