NEPRA imposes heavy penalties on power distribution companies

IESCO tops with Rs 210 million fine.

Islamabad : The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has imposed hefty fines on distribution companies for fatal and non-fatal accidents between 2018 and 2025. According to NEPRA documents, a total of Rs 635 million in penalties was imposed on the power utilities.

Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) topped the list with fines of Rs 210 million for fatal accidents. HESCO was fined Rs 87 million, followed by LESCO with Rs 76 million, PESCO with Rs 75 million, and MEPCO with Rs 51 million. GEPCO and SEPCO were fined Rs 43 million each, while FESCO faced a fine of Rs 41 million and QESCO Rs 22.5 million.

For non-fatal accidents, NEPRA imposed total fines of Rs 330 million. PESCO, FESCO, LESCO, GEPCO, MEPCO, SEPCO, and TESCO were each fined Rs 10 million. HESCO was fined Rs 30 million, while QESCO faced Rs 20 million in penalties.

Additionally, the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) was fined Rs 10 million for fatal incidents.

NEPRA documents also reveal that K-Electric, the distribution company for Karachi, faced fines amounting to Rs 95.5 million between 2018 and 2025 over various incidents.
