Noor Maqadam murder case: IHC upholds sentence for Zakir Jaffar, other accused

ISLAMABAD: March ,13,2023: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected pleas of accused in Noor Maqadam murder case and upheld death penalty for Zahir Jaffar , main accused, and other two his household employees who were nominated as co-accused in the case.

A divisional bench comprising chief justice, Amir Farooq, and justice Ejaz Ahamd Khan announced the judgement reserved on December 21, 2022 on plea of the accused.

Noor Maqadam,. a young educated lady , was butchered by the accused Zahir Jaffar at his residence in posh sector F-7/4 for not accepting his proposal for marriage.

According to the first information report (FIR) , the accused invited the victim at his house and made her hostage for not acceding to his demand. Later , the accused tortured the victim for two days and subsequently chopped off her head on July ,20, 2022. The FIR said other two co-accused –Mohammad Iftikhar and Mohammad Jan who were household employees of Zahir Jaffar assisted him in the murder.
The police had also nominated Zahir Jaffar’s mother, Asmat Adamji and father , Zakir Jaffar , and six therapy workers who had visited the site of the murder before reaching of the police there.

The session court had awarded death penalty to the primary accused , Zahir Jaffar and 10 -year term to both co-accused , Mohammad Iftikhar and Mohammad Jan in February 2022.

The accused had challenged their sentence before IHC.

The divisional bench rejected the pleas of the accused and upheld their sentence in the case.
