Islamabad : Over the past five years, the federal government has spent more than Rs. 1.35 billion (Rs. 1,35,58,00,000) to manage protests in the federal capital, Islamabad.

A session of the National Assembly was held under the chairmanship of Panel of Chair’s member Abdul Qadir Patel, where Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi submitted written responses. He presented details of expenditures incurred in dealing with protests and demonstrations in Islamabad over the past five years.

The Interior Minister informed the House that in the fiscal year 2019-20, the government spent over Rs. 157.7 million on handling protests in Islamabad. In 2020-21, this expenditure was over Rs. 96.1 million.

He further stated that in 2021-22, the cost of handling protests in Islamabad amounted to Rs. 277.9 million, while in 2022-23, the government spent a whopping Rs. 724 million on protest management.

According to the Federal interior minister, in 2023-24, the expenditure incurred to handle protests in Islamabad was Rs. 100 Million.

The official documents reveal that over the past five years, the federal government had to spend a total of Rs. 1.35 billions to deal with protests Islamabad.
