RAWALPINDI: July 16,2023: Pak-Iran military leadership has declared terrorism as a common threa
According to the statement issued by the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir’s successful two-day visit to Iran has come to an end.
The army chief had detailed meetings with Iran’s military leadership including Staff Major General Mohammad Baqeri.
Military commanders from both sides agreed that terrorism is a common threat to the region in general and to both countries, in particular.
The military leadership of both sides vowed to find ways to end the menace of terrorism in the border areas and enhance cooperation in the security sector through intelligence sharing and effective operations against terrorist networks.
According to ISPR, General Asim Munir also met with Ibrahim Raisi of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Foreign Minister Hussain Amir Abdullah.
During the discussion, the importance of Pak-Iran bilateral relations for regional peace and stability was highlighted.
According to the statement, upon the arrival of the Army Chief, the armed forces of the Iranian armed forces presented a guard of honor at the military headquarters.
Earlier, according to Iranian media, Ibrahim Raisi met with the Chief of the Pakistan Army General Syed Asim Munir in Tehran.
In the meeting, the expansion of relations with neighboring, like-minded and Muslim countries was declared as one of the priorities of Iran’s foreign policy. It said that the speed of implementation of mutual agreements would improve the economic and trade cooperation between Iran and Pakistan. and as a result the political relations of the two neighbors will also strengthen.
Ibrahim Raisi also mentioned the efforts of the enemies to spoil the relations of the regional countries and emphasized the need to increase mutual cooperation through existing capacities and increase mutual transactions.
In the meeting of General Asim Munir with the Iranian President, it was agreed to work together for border protection, war against terrorism and geographical integrity.
In the meeting, Pakistan Army Chief Syed Asim Munir also appreciated Iran’s policies of expanding relations with its neighbors, especially Pakistan, and called it special for the Islamic world.
General Asim Munir mentioned the long common borders of Iran and Pakistan and the capacity of border transactions and said that the security situation will improve with trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. We are engaged in efforts to strengthen security.
Earlier, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir also met Iranian Foreign Minister Hussain Amir Abdullahyan.
In the meeting between Foreign Minister Hussain Amir Abdullahian and General Asim Munir, mutual interest and regional issues were discussed.
General Asim Munir had arrived in Tehran on Friday on a two-day visit to Iran.
Iranian state news agency reported that General Asim Munir met with the Chief of General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri on Saturday. The report said that the purpose of the meeting was to increase mutual relations in military, educational, defense and security cooperation.
During the meeting,Muhammad Baqeri highlighted the historical background of the two neighboring countries regarding the expansion of mutual relations and especially cooperation in other fields including the military sector.
An Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said the armed forces are concerned about the opportunities available to the TTP for operations in Afghanistan.
