Pakistan delays final decision on participation in T20 world cup

PCB chief , Mohsin Naqvi , meets PM , Shahbaz Sharif , briefs him on options on ICC's indiscriminate behaviour towards Bangladesh . Tells media PM to take final decision on Friday or Monday

Islamabad : Pakistan is still a few days away from taking decision on its participation in T20 world cup 2026. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman , Mohsin Naqvi , briefed prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , on the controversial issue here on Monday and placed before him all options to seek his endorsement on the issue of indiscriminate behaviour of the International Cricket Council (ICC) towards Bangladesh .

PCB chief spoke to the media after having the meeting with the prime minister and said he put all available options for participating in T20 world cup ,2026 being hosted by India and sought the prime minister ‘s approval on the issue in hand.
Mr Mohsin Naqvi asserted that the prime minister heard the case in detail and he will take a final decision on the matter on next Friday or Monday.

Pakistan had taken strong exception to ICC decision to keep Bangladesh out of T20 world cup for asking it to transfer its matches to third neutral place. Bangladesh had expressed security concerns for its team for playing in India and informed ICC to shift its matches to Sri Lanka. Pakistan had also suggested to ICC not to set a double standard in the case of Bangladesh.
Pakistan referred its case to ICC when it allowed India to play its matches out of Pakistan in the pretext of security to its players in 2022. ICC brushed a side all arguments of Pakistan and rejected Bangladesh ‘s request for shifting its matches to neutral venue. Not only this , ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland team for T20 world cup 2026.

Pakistan is still advocating Bangladesh ‘s case and trying to pursue to ICC to ensure that Bangladesh plays upcoming matches of T20 world cup.

At some point in time , Pakistan had hinted to boycott T20 world cup in case Bangladesh ‘s demand for transfer of its matches was met to shift its matches to the third country. However , it seems Pakistan may play T20 world cup even if ICC does not accept Bangladesh ‘s demand , but its participation in the tournament could be in protest against ICC’s what it believes ” double standard” in the case of Bangladesh.
