Islamabad : Pakistan has made a formal request to the United Kingdom (UK) for Shahzad Akbar, a formal advisor to jailed Pakistan Tehreek – e – Insaf (PTI) , leader , Imran Khan , and Adil Raja , a social media activist and U -tuber , who are criticising the military establishment on social media.
Shahzad Akbar was a close political confident of Imran Khan and he was holding the portfolio of advisor to accountability in PTI’s quarter to four years rule. He was very active in taking action against the present ruling elite as advisor to accountability of Imran Khan.
Adil Raja too is known for promoting PTI cause in social media . He targets Pakistani politicians who are opponent to Imran Khan.
Adil Raja has also targeted Pakistani institutions like army and judiciary in his social media account. He was going all out to defame Pakistani military leadership and judiciary till he was declared a fake U tuber by a London court in a case filed by a retired military officer.
Following London court’s judgement , Pakistan government was deliberating to form a formal request to UK for extradition of Raja Adil and Shahzad Akbar.
In this context , Interior minister , Mohsin Naqvi , today made a formal written request to UK in his meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan in Islamabad.
Mohsin Naqvi had declared a few days ago that those who are trying to defame Pakistan abroad through fake news will be brought back to face their crime before the court of law.
The government request to UK for extradition is extremely important . If Pakistan’s request in the case of Shahzad Akbar and Adil Raja goes well it will help the incumbent government to seek extradition of many other Pakistanis who are outrightly criticising the government authorities and military leadership. In other case , it will be a teasing point for the government authorities.
Pakistan ‘s history shows UK did not extradite any person on the request of Pakistani authorities in the past. It included MQM top leader , Altaf Hussain , and even PTI government could not manage to extradite Sharifs from UK when it in its rule wanted to bring them back to face cases which were pending in different courts of Pakistan.
PMLN senator , Tahir Sindhu , conceded in a TV show on Thursday evening that Pakistan does not have any agreement with UK for extradition of any wanted persons. The host of the show then put a question to PMLN senator Tahir Sindhu that if it was the case why Interior minister , Mohsin Naqvi, was making the case for seeking extradition of Shahzad Akbar and Adil Raja ?. In reply to it , PMlN senator noted that Mohsin Naqvi can make a bid for it at least.
