PCB Announced Central Contracts for 16 Women Cricketers

Islamabad: After an annual performance review, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled its list of central contracts for 16 women’s cricket players for the 2024–25 international season today (Saturday). The contracts will be effective from July 1, 2024.

Last year, 20 players signed two-year contracts with a promise that their performance will be reviewed after the 2023–24 campaign.

In light of their recent performances and increasing prominence in the game, Pakistan’s skipper Fatima Sana and wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali have been promoted to Category A, while left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal has been promoted to Category B.

Three newcomers to the list are Tasmia Rubab, Rameen Shamim, and Gull Feroza. In addition to Rameen and Gull making their first appearances on the central contract list since 2018 and 2022–2023, respectively, Tasmia has earned the contract for the first time, which marks a significant turning point in her career.

For the forthcoming season, the contracts of Aliya Riaz, Anosha Nasir, Eyman Fatima, Nida Dar, Shawaal Zulfiqar, and Sidra Nawaz have not been extended. As the PCB focuses on nurturing the next generation of cricket players in line with the ICC Women’s Future Tours Programme 2025–2029, these players will still be available for selection.

PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed stated, “I would like to congratulate Tasmia Rubab on her maiden central contract and Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, and Sadia Iqbal on their well-deserved promotions on behalf of the PCB.

The return of Gull Feroza and Rameen Shamim, along with her inclusion and advancement, demonstrate our dedication to praising talent and acknowledging consistent excellence.”

He also added that the key contracts for 2024–25 are a reflection of forward-thinking approach as they get ready for the new ICC Women’s Future Tours Program.

To maintain competitiveness at the top level while fostering future stars, there are plans to further invest in existing players by granting considerably higher retainers and providing clear pathways to the up-and-coming batsman.

Cricket for women is a vital component of the larger development plan. Offering the female cricket players the tools, chances, and encouragement they require to succeed is a priority for the PCB.

The next generation is encouraged to dream big and push the limits of their abilities by these contracts, which also serve as incentives for present players.
