Gujranwala; Pakistan Demoratic .movement (PDM) on October 16,2020 could not attract a big crowed for its first ever public gathering in Gujranwala.
PDM had picked up Gujranwala as venue for its first public gathering for two reasons. -
First, Gujranwala Division had always been a hub of Pakistan Muslim League
N and PDM was expecting big crowed to pose threat to Imran government. -
Second, it was a demand of PMLN to kick off PDM public compaign from Gujranwala.
The opposition did gathered a reasonable crowed to keep claiming it was an ocean of public , but it ,of course, was much less to be called a mammoth crowed.
The live videos were its ample proof to chide the opposition leaders ‘claims that it was a big show of opposition power.
The live videos aired from Jinnah Stadium Gujranwala clearly showed different empty pockets in the venue during adresses of PDM leaders.
The government side counted participants of the public gathering at 17000. -
Fawad Chaudhary , Federal Information minister, claimed the opposition’s response was much less than its expense incurred on the event.
Fiaz Chohan, provincial Information minister Punjab, said PDM show in Gujranwala was a big failure. He claimed 11 parties of the opposition could not fill one stadium having capacity of 27000 people.
In his address, PML N supremo Nawaz Sharif accused the security establishment for his ouster from.power.
Addressing the public gathering via video link from London, Nawaz Sharif ssid the security establishment orchestrated a plan to oust him from power and bring Imran Khan in.
Nawaz Sharif also referred the case of Asim Bajwa and questioned as to why NAB did not investigate the case against Asim Bajwa for amassing assets beyond his known source of income.
In his address, PDM chief and JUI (F) head, Maula Fazal ur Rehman, said this public gathering has exposed Imran Khan’s performance as prime minister. He claimed the PDM public campaign will throw PTI government out of power till December 2020. The Maulana said he has no differences with any state institution including the military.
His this statement and address of PMLN leader Maryam Nawaz hinted at a change in the opposition narrative.
Rather than directly attacking on the establishment, Maulana ànd Maryam Nawaz targeted Imran Khan and his government. -
The Maulana called Imran Khan a foreign agent and warned to oust him to what he claimed “protect Pakistan”. He claimed Imran Khan sold out Kashmir to India.
Maryam Nawaz in her address did not mention the state institutions as was her routine in addresses to the public gatherings since many months. She stopped short of it and attacked Imran Khan and his goverment. -
She said the days of Imran Khan government were numbered.
PPP chairman, Bilawal Bhutto, made a lengthy, but boring speech on the occasion. He remained waivered in his address. He spoke on variety of issues and held Imran Khan responsible of all ills confronted with Pakistan now. He declared PPP will snatch Sindh’s rights from the selected government. He , rather than sticking to PDM agenda in his address, spent most of the time of speech on performance of his party when it was in power in the Centre.
Ahsan Iqbal, Mahmood Khan Achakzai , Khawaja Asif, Mian Iftikhar of ANP and Asfundyar Wali Khan also addresses the public gathering. -
The price hike and its impact on the people was main focus of their speeches.
