PDM springs up: convenes emergent meeting for today

LAHORE; The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has called its an emergent online meeting today (Saturday) to form a strategy to block the government move to get okayed its bill relating to the use of electronic voting machine (EVM) in joint sitting of the parliament . The government has convened a joint sitting of the parliament for Monday next. Its basically meant to get passed the most controversial bill of using EVM in upcoming general elections. The controversy surrounding the use of EVM in next elections is haunting Pakistan’s parliamentary politics since long. The government wants to make the law to ensure the use of EVM in next elections come what may. The opposition takes it as a deep conspiracy to steal future elections. With these claims and counter claims , the government move to get passed the bill of using EVM in next elections have created an emergency situation for both..the government and opposition . In the new situation, PDM meeting gets extra ordinary significance. The opposition parties in the parliament may join hands to foil the ģovernment plan to get cleared controversial bill of the use of EVM in joint sitting of parliament.

On Friday, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) chief, Shahbaz Sharif , had telephonic conversation with the Pakistan People Party (PPP) chairman, Balawal Bhutto on the issue in discussion. It shows the opposition may have a joint bloc against the government to block its move in joint sitting relating to EVM bill.

Talking to NEWSMAN, PMLN senior leader, Ahsin Iqbal, said the opposition is on one forum in parliament and it will go in the joint sitting with the same strategy.
