Peshawar prepares for November 1 crackdown on unregistered Afghan nationals

Deportation drive against illegal Afghan nationals to continue under new KP government setup

PESHAWAR – Preparations have been completed for an operation against unregistered Afghan nationals in Peshawar, scheduled to begin on the first of November, as the authorities prepare to continue enforcement measures related to the identification and deportation of undocumented Afghan nationals under the new government setup in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to official sources, 120 joint teams comprising police, the Federal Constabulary, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and security forces have been constituted to carry out the planned operation across the provincial capital.

For operational purposes, Peshawar has been divided into five sectors.Of the 120 teams, 50 will focus on markets and commercial areas, while the remaining 70 will conduct operations in the city, cantonment areas, along Ring Road and in rural localities.

Sources said that preparations also include the identification of unregistered Afghan nationals in markets, residential neighbourhoods, rented houses and educational institutions. The exercise is intended to facilitate the implementation of the planned operation and enable the relevant authorities to locate individuals whose registration or legal status requires verification.

The operation is expected to form part of the broader enforcement drive concerning undocumented Afghan nationals.Under the new government setup in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the authorities are expected to continue measures aimed at implementing the existing policy on the identification and deportation of Afghan nationals who do not possess valid registration or legal documents to remain in Pakistan.

The deployment of joint teams from multiple law enforcement and security agencies indicates a coordinated approach to the proposed operation. However, the scope of the exercise, its implementation arrangements and any subsequent developments will depend on official directives and the applicable legal and administrative procedures.

The operation is scheduled to commence on the first of November, with further action expected to depend on the assessment and instructions of the relevant authorities.
