PFUJ (Workers) wows to fight for journalists’ rights, End monopoly over press club

.Islamabad: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (Workers) has pledged to continue its struggle for the rights of journalists and media workers while vowing to end the monopoly of specific groups over press clubs. The leadership declared that those who have closed the doors of press clubs on others will no longer be allowed to manipulate these institutions for personal gains.

These views were expressed by PFUJ (Workers) President Dr. Saadia Kamal, Information Secretary Abdul Razzaq Chishti, senior journalists Mazhar Iqbal, Hameedullah Abid, Changaz Khan Jadoon, and women journalists Nayab Gohar and Bushra Akhund during a gathering at the National Press Club Islamabad. The event was organized to welcome senior journalists, including Hameedullah Abid, Changaz Khan Jadoon, Nayab Gohar, and Bushra Akhund, into the PFUJ (Workers) ranks.

Welcoming the new members, Dr. Saadia Kamal highlighted that professional journalists from across Pakistan, spanning various districts and press clubs, have joined PFUJ (Workers). She stated that had the late leader Parvez Shaukat been alive today, he would have been pleased with the union’s growing strength. She reiterated the commitment to empowering women in the union, stating that PFUJ (Workers) will remain open to all journalists, regardless of their press club affiliations, and will protect their rights without discrimination.

Hameedullah Abid praised Dr. Saadia Kamal’s fearless leadership against the so-called press club mafias, expressing confidence that hundreds of journalists from the Rawalpindi region would soon rally behind PFUJ (Workers). He urged senior and genuine members of the press club to join hands in restoring the dignity of the journalist community.

The event concluded with special prayers for the late Parvez Shaukat and veteran columnist Athar Masood Wani, who passed away recently.
