Islamabad : Dec 26: The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) got major relief from the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday when it suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) order of taking back the symbol of bat from the aggrieved political party.
ECP had declared PTI intra party elections as null and void and withdrew the symbol of bat from it. PTI had challenged ECP decision before PHC.
A larger bench of PHC heard the PTI petition and made a number of observations wherein it questioned ECP decision. The court accepted the arguments of PTI counsels and suspended ECP orders of taking back the symbol of bat previously allotted to PTI.
The court issued the short order in the case in the evening wherein it ruled that the ECP decision regarding taking back PTI symbol of bat is suspended till final judgement in the case . Justice Kamran Hayat wrote the short order in the case.
Speaking to the media after the hearing of the case, PTI counsels , Babar Awan advocatrb, Ali Zadar and PTI chairman and counsel in this case , Barrister Gohar Ali Khan , said today’s court decision of suspending ECP order is a great decision and it has increased in integrity and respect of the court, besides restoring confidence of the masses in higher judiciary. They said with suspension of the ECP decision today (Tuesday) PTI has got its symbol of bat back. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan appreciated PHC decision of suspending ECP decision and hoped that in next hearing the court may reverse the commission orders of withdrawing the symbol of bat.
