Baku, (Newsman): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit (COP29) in Baku.
According a statement issued from Prime Minister House, Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Aliyev for the successful hosting of COP29 in Baku and commended his leadership in advancing global cooperation on climate change.
The Prime Minister acknowledged Azerbaijan’s proactive role in addressing climate-related challenges and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to collaborate closely with Azerbaijan and the global community in tackling the adverse impacts of climate change.
Prime Minister Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, despite its minimal contribution to global emissions, and assured President Aliyev that Pakistan remains dedicated to addressing climate challenges and supporting international climate action.

The two leaders also took the opportunity to review the broader spectrum of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

They reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the strategic partnership, with particular emphasis on enhancing economic, defence, and cultural cooperation. Discussions also touched on potential collaborations in technology transfer and joint ventures in renewable energy.
Moreover, the two leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the escalating tensions in the Middle East, underscoring the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation in addressing global issues.
