ISLAMABAD; The newly formed Pakistan Medical Council (PMC) on October 3,2020 announced admission policy 2020-21 for MBBS and BDS after formal approval of first meeting of its council held in Islamabad.
The admission policy for MBBS and BDS 2020-21 will be applicable for all public and private sector medical colleges across Pakistan.
PMC has appointed the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) as an authority to conduct MDCAT entry test at the national level.

“NUMS has been appointed as an authority to conduct one national MDCAT for admission in all public and private sector medical colleges in the country.
The national MDCAT entry test will be held in the second week of November 2020” an official announcement made on October 3, 2020 by PMC said .
It added the exact date of the national MDCAT will be announced in a week after completing logistic arrangements at test centres.
Although PMC calls its first ever MDCAT as a one  national entry test in its announcement,  but the same announcement said NUMS MDCAT will be held on October 11, 2020. It has another confusion as it attached a separate status to Agha Khan Medical College Karachi. It said Agha Khan Medical College will conduct a separate entry test for offering admission to its candidates for MBBS/BDS courses. Again , instead NUMS its Agha Khan University that will conduct MDCAT for Agha Khan Medical College.
PMC, however , claimed the admissions in MBBS and BDS courses will be made strictly on merit.
According to its announcement, only those candidates will be eligible for applying for MBBS and BDS admission in public or private sector medical colleges who will pass the national MDCAT with minimum 60 % marks.
Weightage of SSC and HSSC or equivalent will be as follow , SSC or equivalent 10 %, HSSC or equivalent 40% and MDCAT 50 %.
On the fee structure, PMC said the private sector medical colleges will submit and seek approval of their fee structure from PMC.

The following is the text of PMC announcement.

Admissions of the constituent, administered and affiliated colleges of NUMS shall be carried out by NUMS based on merit and the NUMS Entry Test being conducted by NUMS on 11th October 2020 will be part of the admission criteria in addition to
MDCAT. Similarly admissions of Agha Khan Medical College will be conducted by
Agha Khan Medical University based on their declared prospectus subject to
mandatory condition of having passed the MDCAT.
 Admission to all other private colleges for the 2020-2021 session will be conducted by PMC through a centralized automated system strictly on merit with MDCAT being given 50% weightage and balance weightage to FSC or alternative high school qualification.
Fee Structure
 Admissions Policy 2020-2021 approved by Council to regulate the admissions and
fee structures.
 Proposed fees of all private colleges will be submitted to PMC and notified by PMC
including tuition and all ancillary charges. These will be fixed for the period of the
entire program for the students obtaining admission this year.
