Islamabad : Dec 22 : On Friday , Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) had good and bad news on the same day. In the morning , Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) had bailed out PTI founder chairman , Imran Khan, and vice chairman , Shah Mahmood Qureshi , in the cipher case and It brought a major relief to PTI top leadership which is struggling to contest the general elections 2024 .
PTI was yet to celebrate this major decision of apex court, but the same evening the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced its decision that since PTI’s intra party elections *were* not as per the law so it can not be given bat as a symbol to contest the general elections.
The ECP decision is perhaps more damaging for PTI than SCP decision of bailing out its top leadership in the cipher case. The ECP decision if remains intact will bring a big dent for PTI . In the new situation , PTI’s candidates will be considered as independent .
PTI will definitely rush to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to challenge ECP decision of taking back bat as its symbol. Since PTI was expecting such decision, its chairman Gohar Khan had already announced that PTI will challenge ECP decision in case it refuses to give the party its original symbol of bat to contest the general elections. ECP decision in its existing form has created a challenging situation.
