PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary sent to Adiala jail on 14-day judicial remand

ISLAMABAD : Jan 27, 2023: A court of district and session judge Islamabad , Raja Waqas Ahmad , has granted 14-day judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader , Fawad Chaudhary , and sent him to Adiala jail.

PTI leader , Fawad Chaudhary was produced before the judge of the session and district Islamabad today in tight security on completion of 2-day physical remand .

The duty magistrate Islamabad had approved 2-day physical remand of Fawad Chaudhary hours after his arrest in an incitement against the officials of the constitutional institution in Lahore on January 25.

On onset of today’s hearing , Saad Hassan, the counsel for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and prosecutor in the case , told the court that PTI leader had intentionally hurled serious allegations on ECP which is a constitutional body and threatened its officials and their families of public wrath in his speech in Lahore on January 24.
The ECP.counsel added that Fawad Chaudhary had posed serious threat to the lives of the employees of the ECP and their families. He further argued that the speech in question of PTI
leader was an intentional attempt to create lawlessness and unrest in the country .

The counsel for ECP said Fawad Chaudhary committed a serious crime by hurling threats of public reaction to the officials of the constitutional body.
He pleaded for.extension of one week in physical remand of the accused as he was required for various tests to confirm that the voice produced in the case was his and phonographic test to confirm his identity was also to be carried out.

The counsel for ECP also sought the court orders for search of the house of Fawad Chaudhary to recover the mobile and laptop in his possession.

Babar Awan , counsel for Fawad Chaudhary, opposed the request of the counsel for ECP for more physical remand of Fawad Chaudhary and said his client was a senior politician , lawyer and he has already accepted his statement made a basis of the case being heard by the court. He said ECP was in collusion with the government and his client was being pressurised to force him to stop from making public speeches . He argued that the face of his client was covered when he was produced before the court whereas the face of Indian pilot who was arrested by Pakistan a few years ago was not covered like this . He said the accused has already accepted his statement in question and his more physical remand would be just to allow the police for his physical torture in custody .

After hearing the arguments of both sides , the court approved 14-day physical remand of the PTI leader and sent him to Adiala jail.
