PTI Seeks Larger Bench in Supreme Court for Intra-Party Election Case

ISLAMABAD, October 19,2024: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court (SC), requesting the formation of a five-member larger bench to review the case concerning the party’s intra-party elections.

The hearing for the case is scheduled for October 21. In the application, PTI argued that the case involves important constitutional questions and, as such, should be heard by a larger bench.

The party contested the formation of the current bench, claiming it was not legally appropriate for hearing the constitutional objections raised in the case.

PTI also pointed out that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) could not legally challenge the party, as it was the affected respondent in the matter.

The application also referenced a previous Supreme Court judgment regarding reserved seats, which included remarks about the ECP’s conduct.

PTI’s request called for a larger bench, consisting of a minimum of five or ideally eight judges, under the provisions of the Practice and Procedure Act.
