ISLAMABAD, 19 October 2024: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Saturday said that party founder Imran Khan has instructed the party to continue consultations with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding proposed constitutional amendments.
Speaking at a press conference after meeting with Imran Khan in Adiala jail, Gohar said that the discussions had focused on the proposed constitution amendments, and Khan had directed the party to continue deliberations.
He added that the former prime minister told him that leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Shibli Faraz, Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Ahmed Bhachar, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur should met with him to have further consultation with regarding the amendements.
Gohar also mentioned that the PTI leadership had briefed Imran Khan about their meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Khan, he said, praised the JUI-F chief during the discussion.
However, the PTI has yet to agree to any terms, with Gohar emphasizing that the party will not make any decisions until Imran Khan gives clear instructions. This kind of legislation is unconstitutional and undemocratic, and we strongly condemn the methods being used, Gohar said. He reiterated that PTI is not in a position to vote on the amendments until it receives explicit guidance from its leader.
Gohar also provided an update on Imran Khan’s health and jail conditions, saying that the former prime minister was in good health despite facing difficult circumstances, including a five-day power outage in the jail.
