LAHORE (July 5, 2022). In accordance with the last week decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) , Speaker Punjab assembly, Chaudhary Pervez Elahi, ha summoned the crucial session of the provincial assembly which will decide date of Hamza Shahbaz government.
Last week SCP had had three sessions in a day to decided the months long political and constitutional crisis of Punjab. During the hearing of the case by SCP, both Chaudhary Pervez Elahi and Hamza Shahbaz Shahbaz had agreed to go for re+poll of the chief minister office and this was followed by fixing of July 22, 2022 for re-election .
It’s very tough competition as political fate of both Chaudhary Pervez Elahi and Hamza Shahbaz is at stake . Not only this the result of the re-poll will decide who will be the ruler of the Punjab , Pakistan’s biggest province with 68 % population.
Both major stakeholders are taking the political fight for Punjab as a do and die game .
However, the key to open the door of power in Punjab lies with a related development of by-poll in 20 those constituencies from where Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) member Punjab assembly have been disqualified for voting in favour of Hamza Shahbaz in his election as chief minister Punjab held on April 10, 2022. This election had become controversial as then governor Punjab, Umar Sarfraz Cheema , had refused to administer oath of Hamza Shahbaz citing his election as chief executive of the Punjab illegal and void of constitution .
The matter had finally landed in the court. Finally, SCP had ordered re-election of the chief minister between Hamza Shahbaz and Chaudhary Pervez Elahi.
At president none of PTI backed Chaudhary Pervez Elahi and Hamza Shahbaz , a Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) platform .
However , after disqualification of 20 PTI members of the Punjab assembly, the ball of power is on rolling in the province . Any party which will win majority seats in by-poll scheduled for July 17, 2022 will be in a position to form government in Punjab.
The current number game favour PMLN as it has support of 165 members against 157 of PTI. A candidate will require support of 186 members to make government in Punjab .
Since the session to decide the matter has been summoned time clock is ticking to decide the political fate of Chaudhary Pervez Elahi and Hamza Shahbaz
