This attached unbiased report by a seasoned local journalist Ibrahim Shinwari published in an English daily, regarding the rampant corruption at Pak – Afghan border by Pakistan government officials not only bring bad name to the country but will further alienate the Afghans already going through crisis and trauma to be further subjected to such dirty tricks of delaying both their exits from Pakistan and entry in Pakistan through valid travel documents unless their palms greased. .

I wonder if PTI and all the state institutions under it are still under the illusion that the nation is comfortable to live with corruption for which the PTI was voted something which Gen Mushraf also promised the nation but failed to honour once he became saviour of Pakistan by serving the American interests.

It is sad reflection on us as a nation that Khyber Pass that is known worldwide for its historic importance is today identified for corruption, smuggling and the skullduggery of Pakistani government officials.

In British times, those posted in Khyber were respected for their courage, today as Independent Islamic Republic our officials who get posted here are considered well connected, privileged and rewarded for their services to self their families and their patrons. What a tragedy.

I wonder even if a fool will not condemn corruption and demand transparency and fairplay something for which the Talibans are respected and it was with the power of the people that they defeated the world sole super power.

We as a nation especially those at the helm of affairs appear to be playing with fire, if we don’t reform and discourage corruption, injustice and inequality that the spill over effect will remain not only inevitable but popularly desired for which we should better be mentally prepared and our travel documents ready for the next destination whenever such abrupt change takes place, something all naked eyes can see next door at their airport .
