ISLAMABAD : August 31,2023: Caretaker Prime minister , Anwaarul Haq Kakar, on Thursday said his government will announce a policy for relief in power bills of July in a couple of days. He was speaking to the media on the issue of inflated bills of electricity delivered to the public for July.
Anwaarul Haq Kakar said the government was negotiating a number of options with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for relief to the consumers on their electricity bills delivered for July. The prime minister rebuffed the reports of the social media that the armed forces were using free electricity .
Mr Kakar said ” The armed forces do not use even a single unit of electricity free of cost. He also denied that the judges were using free electricity at their offices and homes and said the facts were totally different to the claims being made on the social media platforms . The prime minister, however , conceded the employees of the distribution and power generation companies were enjoying provision of free electricity . With aggravating the situation in Pakistan due to the rising power crisis , the people are demanding end to the provision of free electricity to all. Pakistan is in severe financial crisis and it’s prompting the general public of Pakistan to criticise the policies of the respective governments which did not stop the provision of free electricity to the employees of the power distribution companies.
The prime minister noted that the agreements made with IPPs and theft were two major reasons of costly power rates in Pakistan.
