Islamabad : As a part of parliamentary diplomacy, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko will arrive in Pakistan today (Sunday) for a three-day official visit.
The Russian speaker, who is visiting Pakistan on invitation of Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, will stay in Pakistan from October 27 to 29, according to a news release.
During her stay, Matvienko will lead the Russian Parliamentary Delegation and meet with top pakistani officials including Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq besides other officials.
She will also address a special session of the Senate on Monday evening.
The visit aims to elevate Pak-Russia bilateral ties to a strategic partnership. It is anticipated that the trip will play a key role in the emergent diplomatic and parliamentary ties between the two countries.
Matvienko’s trip to Pakistan is part of the planned high-level interaction between the two nations.

The visit is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in parliamentary diplomacy, cultural exchange, and other key areas of bilateral interest. Signing of certain MoUs and agreements related to parliamentary affairs are also expected.
