SC suspends LHC decision , directs ECP to issue elections schedule tonight

.Islamabad : Dec 15 : A larger bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) headed by chief justice , Faez Isa , and comprising Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah , suspended an order of the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding halting appointment of bureaucrats as Returning officers (ROs) and deputy returning officers (DROs).

Top court issued a show cause notice to Omair Niazi advocate who had moved LHC against appointments of bureaucrats as ROs and DROs to hold general elections on February 8 next year in the country. The apex court also directed to ECP to announce schedule for upcoming elections tonight. Top court turned down a request of the counsel for ECP to grant some extra time for issuance of schedule for next general elections in the country and ordered to ECP to follow the constitution in this case .

The apex court in its judgment ruled that no one will be allowed to detail democracy in the country . The apex court also showed displeasure over LHC decision and ruled that the judge of LHC overstepped his limit and authority while deciding the petition filed by PTI counsel ,Omair Niazi . The court gave clear directions to ECP to Abid by the rules and fulfil its duty to hold general elections on announced date of February 8, 2024.

Chief justice , Faez Esa , told Sajeel Swati , counsel for ECP to do their work and let the court do its . The court in its judgment stopped proceedings in this case and adjourned the case indefinitely.
